Join us for Groundhog Day at the Zoo
Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002
10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Since Texas is too big for groundhogs, watch for bears looking for their shadows!
10: 00 AM - Wild Animal Weather Walk
11:00 AM - The BEAR looks for his/her shadow
(November 30, 2001) - February 2 is the day to determine if there are six more weeks of winter. Will the Houston Zoo’s bear see its shadow? Zoo visitors can visit 16 booths hosted by Houston area schools to find out which animals hibernate and which ones do not.
The Weather Museum at Weather Research Center, Zoo Friends of Houston, and the Houston Zoo are sponsoring Groundhog Day at the Zoo. Find out how the weather affects different animals. Collect your coloring book cover and Weather Museum contest map and start your Wild Animal Weather Walk around the zoo. After getting a stamp from all 16 booths put your entry form in the drum at the Weather Museum’s booth to have a chance to win a large stuffed Bear.
There are 16 different booths featuring different animals from different countries. Visit the booths and find out about these animals, collect your fact sheet and coloring page and get your contest entry form stamped.
Be sure to visit the Weather Safety booth hosted by the San Jacinto Girl Scouts, the Zoo Friends of Houston Booth to learn more about the Zoo Ball and the Zoo membership booth.
The Weather Museum at Weather Research Center is a new museum being developed in the Houston area. While the museum building is being remodeled and the museum exhibits build, meteorologists at the Center give tours of their Weather Forecast Center.
